NOT A RAPPER
Romania
Not a rapper, a singer, doesn’t rap. Her name itself is a provocation, a contradiction, and a statement. Since 2020, this experimental independent artist has been carving her own path through the music world with a genre-fluid sound that defies boundaries and expectations.
Her voice is clear and unapologetic, floating over beats that refuse to play by the rules. Surprising twists, unconventional arrangements, and poetic lyrics full of metaphor are trademarks of her sonic identity. Deeply rooted in a Romanian family history shaped by migration and resilience, Not a rapper wasn’t surrounded by music from a young age. Trained in piano, guitar, and even opera as a child, she weaves these early influences into a sound that is at once emotional, raw, and theatrically charged.
Since 2024, Not a rapper produces all her beats herself—self-taught and fiercely independent. In 2023, she began DJing her own shows, spinning hard techno sets to gain full control of the stage experience. Her music, visuals, and performances are a fully self-crafted universe. From producing to songwriting, from music videos to styling—she does it all. Even her stage outfits are handmade.
Her most-streamed single, “Drip Drop,” recently surpassed 800,000 plays on Spotify. In a review by Süddeutsche Zeitung, journalist Clara Löffler praised her for a “cohesive aesthetic that plays with trashy hip-hop tropes in an ironically sharp way—with instant impact.”
