James Thornhill is a festival booker, artist manager, music marketer, journalist and DJ working out of the Midlands, United Kingdom. He manages the acts Marvin’s Revenge and Bethan Lloyd.
He recently launched the Arts Council-funded Psychic Dancehall festival, a new electronic and experimental music event in Derby, and books gigs at various venues across Derby and Nottingham.
Proxy Music offers mentoring, marketing and management support to artists and labels, having worked with Our Silent Canvas, Sharpe festival, Wendy Rae Fowler, Julia-Sophie, Castles in Space, Bearstone festival, Safe Suburban Home, Yarni, Seas of Mirth, Minority Records, Yammerer and others.
As a journalist, he is a regular contributor to Electronic Sound and has bylines in Notion, DrownedinSound, Line of Best Fit, Louder, Under The Radar and GodisinTheTV and had a monthly new music slot on BBC Radio Derby. In 2019, he wrote and edited the 40th Anniversary fanzine for Casio Instruments.
He has delivered workshops on music marketing at Sharpe, Nouvelle Prague, Muna music festivals and Soundczech, and has taken part in panels at various other music industry events.
